It\u2019s incredible that with modern technology, we can attend meetings and complete our work tasks from nearly anywhere. The opportunity for a mobile workplace, otherwise known as \u201cagile working\u201d, is a very real possibility for so many people nowadays.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

So, why is \u201cagile working\u201d becoming so important for\u00a0organisations? The word\u00a0agile<\/i>\u00a0means the\u00a0ability\u00a0to move\u00a0quickly and easily. In this context it means the ability to be flexible and productive, from anywhere.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

In today\u2019s world and the demands that it brings we need to be more responsive and efficient in our work, at all hours of the day. The ability to adopt a mobile workplace allows this to happen. Long days at the same desk are thankfully on the way to being behind us, now that we can so readily respond to emails and so many of our tasks remotely.<\/p>\n\n

Agile working and hot-desking<\/h2>\n\n

Quite simply, an agile or mobile workplace is one in which staff can work from anywhere, at any time. This can mean while travelling, in a home office, in a cafe, coffee in hand, or simply in other parts of the office. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

This last one would be the idea of \u201chot-desking,\u201d a term you may have heard as it\u2019s become a bit of a trend lately. Hot-desking is the practice of not allocating a single desk to an individual\u00a0staff member,\u00a0so\u00a0nobody\u00a0has their \u201cown\u201d desk. It\u2019s\u00a0the\u00a0perfect situation for an\u00a0organisation\u00a0that hires a lot of part-timers, temps, contractors or have job share arrangements in place.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

It means that\u00a0a\u00a0staff member comes in, grabs an available desk, does their work and,\u00a0at the end of the day,\u00a0packs\u00a0up their things and off they go. There are\u00a0two\u00a0camps on hot-desking;\u00a0those who love it and those who loathe it, and it remains to be seen if it will stick\u00a0around.\u00a0The idea of working remotely\u00a0though\u00a0isn\u2019t going anywhere.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The agile working concept is firmly backed up by technological advances like mobile scanners, printers, laptops, even folding keyboards \u2013 all designed to be easily carried around\u00a0and transported.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Mobile devices such as phones, laptops and tablets make it so easy to stay connected \u2013 but only if they have\u00a0sufficient\u00a0charge on their batteries. A portable charger\u00a0(also known as a\u00a0power bank<\/a><\/strong>)\u00a0can keep those devices functioning for hours at a time, keeping you at work when you\u2019re away from a\u00a0powerpoint.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

A handy desk\u00a0organiser\u00a0that can hold your smart phone or tablet is perfect for hot-desking, and a caddy that can be\u00a0closed up\u00a0and taken with you is invaluable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

If you\u2019re working on confidential information, you\u2019ll not want that curious person next to you in the airport lounge peeking over your shoulder. A privacy screen<\/a><\/strong> filter can block out the screen from side views, so only you can see those secret files.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n
