COS Research Featured in Inside Small Business: Is AI Really Saving Australian Workers Time?

Artificial intelligence is often promoted as the answer to improving workplace productivity, but is it delivering the time savings many employees expect?

New national research commissioned by COS and featured in Inside Small Business reveals the answer isn’t as straightforward as many businesses might think.

The research, which surveyed more than 1,000 Australian office workers, found that while 52% of employees say AI has given them more time at work, almost one in three (30%) don’t feel they have more time. Some reported no noticeable difference, while others said learning and checking AI outputs or increased workplace expectations have reduced the perceived benefits.

The findings also highlight a broader workplace challenge, with more than half of respondents believing fewer workplace systems would improve their productivity. Rather than simply adopting new technology, the research suggests businesses should focus on practical implementation, employee training and integrating AI into existing workflows.

COS Co-CEO Belinda Lyone shared her insights on why successful AI adoption is about more than introducing new tools, and how businesses can ensure technology genuinely makes work easier rather than adding another layer of complexity.
