Essential Technology for Today’s Classroom

Staying current with technological advancements is crucial for educators to prepare students for a digital-centric world.

Advances in technology have changed the way teachers interact with lessons and students. Remote learning via webcam, the increased use of tablets and laptops in the classroom, and the ubiquity of the Internet and email are but the tip of the iceberg when it comes to technology and education.

Education Technology platforms are increasingly allowing teachers to better deliver targeted lessons tailored to individual student needs. The Law of Accelerating Returns posits that technological progress occurs at an exponential rate, leading to further advancements in increasingly shorter time frames. Keeping abreast of the latest technology and advances is essential for preparing students to live in an increasingly digital world.

Below are some examples of items that are essential for the modern classroom.

USB Drives

With their portable and compact design, USB drives allow teachers and students alike to store and transfer digital materials like assignments, presentations, and study resources. A USB drive is like having a virtual locker that keeps all your digital treasures in one safe place. Whether a USB drive is used for sharing files with students, accessing materials on different computers, or backing up important documents, a trusty USB drive ensures that you’re always prepared and organised

Charging Cabinets

For charging tablets after school hours, between classes or during lunch break, there is nothing quite as handy as a Charging Dock and Sync Station. Combining charging, secure storage and multi-tablet synching, the KGTN Charge & Sync Cabinet for Tablets and similar products allow multiple tablets to be charged at the same time, are securely lockable ensuring that tablets don’t go walkabout, and can synch multiple tablets, allowing teachers to upload new apps or updates to multiple tablets simultaneously.

Spare Cables, Chargers and Docks

Tech, such as laptops and tablets is steadily becoming more and more common in schools. In fact, Australian schools are some of the largest users of technology in the classroom. As such, students will often be using laptops and tablets during classes. It’s inevitable that just as often as students will need their technology, they will also forget their charging cables. A collection of USB, Lightning and Thunderbolt cables can save a lot of aggravation.

Multi-port charging stations are an easy way to ensure that students can plug in their devices to charge during class. Charging stations come in multiple sizes and port numbers, ranging from small two-port wall plugs to larger desktop based five and 10 port charging stations.

Headsets

It may seem a little counterintuitive to recommend headphones for a classroom, but a headset (with attached microphone) is all but essential to get the most out of a tablet or laptop. Not only is a headset necessary for any type of video chat, whether for remote learning, chatting to a guest speaker or interviewing someone for an assignment, they are also becoming increasingly used in a number of education apps, especially those for language instruction and practice.
